The community here in Finglas is one where every person is deemed to be a member of our Christian family. We are a group of parishes united together in a common faith modelled on the teachings of Christ. The oldest church in our grouping is St Margaret’s, followed by St Canice here in the Village. With the spreading of the population moving out of Dublin City the church of the Annunciation was built for the people of Finglas West followed by the building of the church of St Oliver Plunkett and the small Oratory of St Finian for the final phase of the movement of people out of the city.
The collective name for all our grouping is “The Greater Finglas Parish”. We are a tough lot here in Finglas and have been able to overcome the many obstacles that have faced our church and community over the years. There are two possible responses when facing a problem. One is to say, ‘It’s too big. There’s nothing I can do.’ The other is to say, ‘It’s so big I can’t miss it!’. Anyone coming to our parish will always witness a great sense of, worship, evangelisation, discipleship, fellowship and service. We always welcome the stranger who we hope will become our friend and become involved in our faith community.
Vision
The Greater Finglas Parish endeavours to foster a warm, welcoming and supportive sense of community and belonging. We aspire to cultivate the growth in the spiritual life of our community and inspire active participation in parish life through a commitment to stewardship and service. In living out our vision, we will seek to accompany each member of our Parish Family as we carry out the mission that is entrusted to us.
Mission
We, the Catholic community of Greater Finglas Parish respond to our Baptismal call. We are guided by the gospel values and we seek to continue the mission of Jesus Christ by welcoming, supporting and guiding all in our Parish Family through prayer, sacramental celebration, service and education.
